According to the Singapore government, there has been a significant increase in the number of Indian students here. Not only this, their earnings have also increased considerably. Singapore Home and Law Minister K. Shanmugam said that the Indian community in Singapore has made remarkable progress and national figures show improvement in areas such as average domestic income and education.
Based on the Singapore census, he said that 41 percent of people aged 25 and above had degrees in 2020, compared to 16.5 percent in 2000. He said that this means that four out of 10 are Indian graduates. The newspaper ‘Straits Times’ quoted the minister on Saturday, saying, “Some are due to immigration but a large number of community conditions are improving.” He said this at the appreciation ceremony organized for donors, partners and volunteers associated with the Self -Help Group ‘Singapore Indian Development Association’ (Sinda).
Monthly income of Indian families increased by 40 percent
The activities of this organization also include providing education aid to the community. Shanmugam is also the president of Sinda. He said that the number of school leaving has also decreased. He said that in 2020, about 18 percent of Indians left school without secondary education, while in 2000 the figure was 38 percent. He also stated that the average monthly income of Indian families increased 40 percent in 10 years between 2010-2020.
