Peshawar: A soldier was killed and six ‘terrorists’ were killed in a rocket attack on a convoy of 35 vehicles carrying food and medical supplies in Pakistan’s communal violence-hit Kurram district on Thursday. The officers provided this information. Following the attack, miscreants also burnt some vehicles carrying relief material in Parachinar in the Bagan Bazaar area of the conflict-hit district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
At least 130 people have died in sectarian clashes between Shia and Sunni tribes since November. There have also been reports of shortage of food grains and medicines due to roads being blocked in the area for several weeks. A peace agreement was signed on January 1, but the road connecting Parachinar remained blocked.
Four soldiers and 10 terrorists injured in the attack
According to the district administration and police, a convoy of 35 vehicles had left for Parachinar in Kurram from Thal town on Thursday. As the first vehicles reached Bagan Bazar, the convoy was attacked with rockets and automatic weapons. According to Additional Deputy Commissioner Shaukat Ali, security forces responded to the attack in which one soldier was killed and six terrorists were killed. He said that four soldiers and 10 terrorists were injured in the attack and three vehicles of the convoy were damaged.
Rockets fired at the convoy from two sides
Officials said that rockets were fired from two sides at the convoy going to Parachinar. Hangu Assistant Commissioner Saeed Mannan said that the convoy of 35 vehicles had left from Thal and was going towards Parachinar when it was attacked by rockets. “The administration is working to bring the situation under control,” he said.
