Abuja: 151 people have died so far due to the rapidly spreading meningitis in Nigeria. The health officials there are constantly struggling to overcome the outbreak of this disease. Most of the people killed by the disease were from remote parts of the northern region. The largest number of children have been affected by the disease.

The first case was revealed last year

It has been said by the Nigeria Disease Control Center (NCDC) that the disease was revealed for the first time in October last year. Now the situation is that it has spread to 23 out of 36 states of Nigeria. About half of 74 deaths have been recorded this year due to this disease.

NCDC spokesperson Sani Datti said that most of the deaths from the disease were mainly due to not reaching the health centers on time or delay. Currently this outbreak has affected Africa’s most populous country.

Health services are destroyed

Health services in Nigeria are currently decaying. The crisis in Nigeria has increased further after the US President Donald Trump’s administration has issued US aid in February. Trump’s decree has affected not only Nigeria but also on many other African countries. (AP)
