Family living in a tent amidst the cold in Gaza
Deir al-Balah: Another baby has died from ‘hypothermia’ in the Gaza Strip. Thousands of Palestinians displaced by the nearly 15-month war in the Gaza Strip are forced to live in tents to escape the winter. According to local health officials, three infants have already died from the cold in recent weeks. ‘Hypothermia’ is a condition in which the human body temperature drops below 35 degrees Celsius (96 F).
What did the father say?
Yehia, father of 20-day-old Jomaa al-Batran, said that when he woke up on Sunday, the child’s head was found to be as cold as ice. The child’s twin brother Ali has been admitted to the ICU of Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital. The father told that the twins were born a month prematurely and were kept in the hospital nursery for only a day. He said they live in tents and temperatures regularly drop below 10 degrees Celsius (50 degrees Fahrenheit) at night. “There are eight of us and we only have four blankets,” Al-Batran said.

student shot
Meanwhile, a Palestinian student was shot dead in her home in Jenin, the troubled northern city of the West Bank. The family of journalism student Shataa al-Sabbagh, 22, claimed that a Palestinian security forces personnel killed her while she was with her mother and two young children. He said there were no terrorists in the area at that time. A statement issued by Palestinian security forces said that he was shot by terrorists.
Hamas also gave a statement
In a statement, the family of deceased student al-Sabbagh accused Palestinian security forces of becoming “oppressors who carry out terrorist acts against their own people instead of defending their honor and standing up against the (Israeli) occupation.” The Hamas terrorist group also blamed security forces and condemned the shooting. Hamas said al-Sabbagh was the sister of one of its fighters who was killed in fighting with Israeli troops last year. (AP)
