Eight militants attempting to infiltrate the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in the North Waziristan district of the disturbed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province were killed by Pakistan’s security force and four terrorists were injured during this period. This information was given by the army’s media affairs branch.
There has been an increase in terrorist activities in Pakistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan here in the last one year after the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended the ceasefire with the government in November 2022.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a press release on Sunday that on the midnight of April 5 and 6, security forces in the general area of Hassan Khel in North Waziristan saw a group of Khavrij, who were trying to infiltrate the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
It said that eight terrorists were killed and four others were injured after the encounter. The term ‘Fitna al Khawarij’ is used by the province for restricted TTP.
ISPR said, “Pakistan is constantly asking the Interim Afghan government to ensure effective border management on its part of the border.”
ISPR said that “Pakistan’s security forces are committed to protect their borders and end the threat of terrorism from the country.”
Prior to this failed attempt of infiltration, similar efforts were made in North Waziristan at the end of March, which were thwarted to kill 16 terrorists by security forces.
A few days later, 11 terrorists were killed in four different encounters with security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – out of which 10 terrorists were killed in different areas of Waziristan.
According to data released by the Pakistan Institute of Conflict and Safety Studies (PICSS), terrorist violence and security campaigns in the country have intensified in March. For the first time since November 2014, the number of terrorist attacks in the country has crossed 100.
