Peshawar: Once again a new case of polio has come to light in Pakistan. After the arrival of the new case, the total number of cases this year has increased to 68. Polio cases are no less than a big shock for Pakistan. According to the National Institute of Health, the country’s premier hospital, the new infection has emerged in Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. So far this year, 27 cases have been reported in Balochistan, 20 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 19 in Sindh, one each from Punjab and Islamabad.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had met health workers a few months ago and asked them to go door-to-door to administer polio vaccination so that no child is left deprived. Polio is a paralyzing disease for which there is no cure and the only way to prevent its infection is the anti-polio vaccine.
