Peshawar: The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of north-western Pakistan has imposed prohibitory order (Section 144) for two months in the violence-hit Kurram district in an effort to restore peace after the attack on a government convoy. A top official of the district was injured in this attack. The decision to impose Section 144 was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
Ban on gathering of five or more people
Under Section 144, there is a ban on roaming openly with weapons and gathering of five or more people. The meeting also decided to ban all public meetings and rallies on the main Parachinar highway between Tari and Chapri areas. This step has been taken to restore peace and harmony in Kurram district affected by communal violence.
Communal clashes have been happening here
Kurram district deputy commissioner Javedullah Mehsud and seven others were injured on Saturday when their military vehicles were fired upon in Kozalai Baba village near Bagan, about 200 km southwest of Peshawar in the mountainous Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Earlier, between November 21 and December 2, 133 people had died in communal clashes in the district.
Government will declare reward
The communal clashes began after a deadly attack on a passenger van near Parachinar, in which 57 people were killed. It is reported that the attackers who targeted the vehicle of Deputy Commissioner Mehsud have been identified and cases have been registered against them. Efforts are on to arrest the attackers. During the meeting it was also decided that the government would announce a reward on the attackers. (Language)
