Islamabad: Pakistan has announced to tighten up on Afghan refugees amidst Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar’s visit to Afghanistan which started on Saturday. Dar has gone to Kabul at the invitation of Afghanistan’s acting Foreign Minister Aamir Khan Muttki, where he will hold delegation level talks with Muttki. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Dar will also meet caretaker Prime Minister Mulla Hasan Akhund and acting Deputy Prime Minister Mulla Abdul Ghani Baradar.
Dar has also visited a high-level delegation and all dimensions of Pak-Afghan relations will be discussed during the talks and focus on ways to strengthen cooperation in all areas of mutual interests including security, trade, contact and people. The yatra took place at a time when the campaign against illegal Afghan refugees has intensified. Pakistan has made it clear that the only way for the Afghans to live in the country is to legally enter with visa.
More than 9 lakh people have been left out to Pakistan
According to ‘Dawn News’ news, Minister of State for Home Talal Chaudhary on Friday refused to extend the cut-off period of April 30 for transfer of Afghans to a third country, saying that under the single-promotion system, Afghans should have passports with valid visas. In November 2023, Pakistan launched a campaign to evacuate foreigners without documents keeping in mind Afghanistan. So far, more than 907,000 people have been sent back. Around 44,000 Afghans approved for transfer to western countries after the Taliban occupation of Afghanistan in August 2021 were in Pakistan till July 2024 and waiting for transfer. Of these, 25,000 people are to be sent to the US, 9,000 Australia, 6,000 to Canada, 3,000 to Germany and more than 1,000 to Britain. (Language)
