A few days after a major military deadlock with India after the Pahalgam terror attack on 22 April, Pakistan’s Army Chief General Aseem Munir has been allegedly promoted to the post of Field Marshal, the country’s highest military post.

Citing the statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office of Pakistan, the reports stated that the country’s Union Cabinet approved the proposal after a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Tuesday.

It is being said in local media reports that the decision has been taken on the basis of their “exemplary role” in the recent struggle with India. Pakistan is claiming victory in the recent struggle, India has exposed its lies with evidence on various forums.

Indo-Pak tension

On April 22, 2025, the entire nation was shaken when suspected militants associated with Pakistan-based terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET) opened fire on a group of tourists in Basarn Valley, Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

This attack, considered the deadliest in the valley after the 2019 Pulwama attack, killed 26 people, one of whom was a Nepali citizen and the other was a local Kashmiri pony operator.

After this attack, India and Pakistan officially reduced their relations, resulting in canceled the visa, bilateral agreements were suspended and several other steps were taken. After the attack, several buildings were demolished by targeting suspected active terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.

14 days after the attack and several demolitions, India started its reply Operation Sindoor. In response to the Pahalgam attack, the exact attacks carried out by India under Operation Sindoor and subsequent airstrikes, along with Pakistani military locations, also caused heavy damage to the terrorist infrastructure. On 22 April, 26 civilians were killed in the Pahalgam attack.

Four days after the fear of the war arising out of the steady clashes on the border after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April, India got a very important relief after the announcement of an immediate ceasefire on 10 May. Foreign Secretary Vikram Egyptie confirmed that the New Delhi had agreed to the ceasefire.
