Ishaq Dar, Pakistan Foreign Minister.
Islamabad: Pakistan has started getting wisdom after India’s strict action. Pak Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has once again advocated “overall talks” to resolve controversial issues with India. Dar’s statement came at a time when India has already made it clear that any conversation with Pakistan will be held only on terrorism and issues related to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK). On Thursday, Dar said in the Pakistani Senate, “The ceasefire with India has been extended till May 18, but the solution of the problems will eventually come out of political talks.”
Let us know that India started ‘Operation Sindoor’ on the night of 6-7 May under retaliation after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir on 22 April. During this time, India had made accurate attacks on terrorists’ bases in Pakistan and PoK. After this, Pakistan tried to attack Indian military establishments on 8, 9 and 10 May, after which it was agreed between the two countries to stop military action on 10 May.
Next dialogue will be held between India and Pakistan on 18 May
Dar said that Pakistan has given a message to the international community that it is ready for overall dialogue with India. He informed that the next contact between the Director General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan (DGMO) will be on May 18.
Historical perspective of conversation
The overall dialogue began in 2003 between India and Pakistan, when the President of Pakistan was General Pervez Musharraf. However, after the Mumbai attacks in 2008, the process derailed completely and so far it could not be formally restored.
Indus Water Treaty and Warning
Dar also commented on the possibility of India suspending the Indus Water Treaty, saying, “If India tries to stop Pakistan’s water, it would be considered as ‘war action’. Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif also offered India to negotiate and said that Pakistan is ready to dialogue for peace and stability. The proposal of this dialogue from Pakistan is being seen as a sign of softening on the diplomatic front amidst the tension in the relationship between the two countries after India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’. However, India’s stance is still strict and it is adamant on demanding concrete action on terrorism. (Language)
