Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that India and Cyprus will develop a strong roadmap to provide strategic direction to cooperation between the two countries. He appreciated the support of Cyprus to become a permanent member in the Security Council of India and the continuous support of Cyprus in India’s fight against border terrorism.
During a joint press statement with the President of Cyprus, PM Modi said, “An Indian Prime Minister has visited Cyprus after two decades. It is an opportunity to write a new chapter in an India-sprus partnership.” President Nicos Christodolidase and I held bilateral talks. Cyprus has similarities in Vision 2035 of Vision 2035 and India’s developed India 2047. Therefore, we will work together towards our shared development. In the next five years, we will develop a strong roadmap to provide strategic direction to our cooperation “
“To further strengthen defense and safety cooperation, the defense industry will be emphasized to strengthen defense and security cooperation. A separate dialogue on cyber and maritime security will be launched.”
He thanked the President of Cyprus for his warm reception and hospitality. He said, “The affection showed by the President and Cyprus as soon as I stepped on the land of Cyprus, he has touched my heart. Just a while ago I was honored with the highest civilian honor of Cyprus. For this, I once again express my heartfelt gratitude. “
He said, “We are grateful to the continuous support of Cyprus in India’s fight against cross-border terrorism. A mechanism will be developed for the exchange of real-time information among our agencies to prevent terrorism, drug and weapons smuggling.”
Earlier, delegation level talks were held between Prime Minister Modi and the President of Cyprus. The Prime Minister said that India and the European Union are working to conclude free trade agreement (FTA) by the end of this year. He said “I discussed the economic relations between our two countries with President Nicos Christodolidase. I saw a sense of enthusiasm and coordination within the business community in this regard. India and the European Union are working to meet a free trade agreement by the end of this year. Earlier this year, the India-Spir-Signed Trade and Investment Council was launched. This initiative will strengthen the business relations between our countries.”
He described Cyprus as a “favorite destination” for Indian tourists and said that there will be an emphasis on making direct air connectivity for him.
