Vientiane (Laos): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has left for home today after completing his “fruitful” 2-day visit to Laos. During this trip he participated in the India-ASEAN and East Asia summits. He visited Lao PDR at the invitation of Lao Prime Minister Sonex Siphandon. Modi said in a post on ‘X’, “Thank you Lao PDR! It has been a fruitful visit, which is in line with India’s commitment to strengthen relations with ASEAN. “Together we will continue to work for peace, prosperity and sustainable development in the region.” PM Modi has also shared a brief video of his entire visit on Instagram.
Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on ‘X’ after PM Modi’s visit, “Strengthening India’s Act East policy, deepening ASEAN-India relations and strengthening India’s Indo-Pacific vision.” The main objective of the Prime Minister’s visit was to enrich the age-old relations with Lao PDR. Prime Minister Modi had said at the 21st India-ASEAN Summit here on Thursday that India-ASEAN friendship is very important at a time when some parts of the world are facing conflict and tension. He announced a 10-point plan to strengthen India-ASEAN Comprehensive Partnership. Also said that relations with the regional group are important to guide the future of Asia.

PM Modi also met counterparts from Japan and New Zealand during his visit to Laos and discussed cooperation in various fields. Apart from this he also met the leaders of Australia, Malaysia and the European Council. He participated in the 19th East Asia Summit today. Prime Minister Modi called for the restoration of peace and stability in Eurasia and West Asia and said that conflicts in different parts of the world are having the most negative impact on the countries of the Global South. On the sidelines of the program, he also discussed with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Special gifts taken from India were also distributed to many heads of state. (Language)
