Bandarseri: After completing his 2-day bilateral visit to Brunei, Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Singapore by his plane today. This information was given by the Prime Minister’s Office. Before going to Singapore, PM Modi made a historic visit to Brunei. He became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Brunei. During this, many important agreements were also signed between India and Brunei. PM Modi emphasized on increasing cooperation with Brunei in the fields of defense, security, trade and culture.

A short while ago, he flew to Singapore after concluding his visit to Brunei Darussalam. The Prime Minister described his visit to Brunei as fruitful and said that it has ushered in a “new era for further strengthening India-Brunei relations”, which contribute to making our planet better. Prime Minister Modi, who is on a bilateral visit, is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Brunei. He held bilateral talks with Brunei Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. In this meeting, topics including defense, trade and energy were discussed and views were exchanged on regional and global issues of mutual interest.

India-Brunei relations expanded

India and Brunei expanded bilateral ties to “enhance partnership”. “My visit to Brunei Darussalam was very fruitful. It marks the beginning of a new era in India-Brunei relations. Our friendship will contribute to building a better planet. I am grateful to the people and government of Brunei for their hospitality and affection,” Modi posted on social media site X as he left the Southeast Asian nation. Modi’s historic visit is an important milestone in the 40-year diplomatic ties between the two countries as they enjoy friendly relations built on mutual respect and consensus on bilateral and multilateral issues, officials said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive here today on his fifth official visit to the South-East Asian country at the invitation of his Singapore counterpart Lawrence Wong. During his two-day visit, Modi will be officially welcomed at the Parliament House in Singapore on Thursday. He will also meet Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam on this day. In a statement issued before leaving for Singapore, Modi said, “I am looking forward to discussing measures to deepen our strategic partnership with Singapore, especially in new and emerging areas of advanced manufacturing, digitalization and sustainable development.” In New Delhi, the Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement saying, “The two leaders will take stock of the progress of the India-Singapore Strategic Partnership and exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.”

PM Modi last visited Singapore in the year 2018. On the latest visit, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and other government officials are accompanying him. Apart from Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Modi will also meet Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. Wong and Loong will host separate banquets in honour of Modi. Modi will also meet Singapore’s business leaders and interact with people associated with the country’s semiconductor ecosystem.
