PM Modi at BIMSTEC summit
Bangkok: Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed to link ‘UPI’ (Uniform Payment Interface) with the payment systems of its member countries at the BIMSTEC summit. This move of PM Modi can promote trade, business and tourism in the region. Addressing the BIMSTEC conference, PM Modi also proposed to establish the ‘BIMSTEC Chamber of Commerce’, organizing the annual trade summit.
PM expresses condolences regarding earthquake
At the beginning of his address, PM Modi expressed condolences on the loss of life and property in Myanmar and Thailand in the devastating earthquake on March 28. Modi also proposed to establish the ‘BIMSTEC Excellence Center’ in India for disaster management, so that disaster preparations, relief and rehabilitation can be cooperated.
Emphasis on increasing the scope of Bimstec
At the BIMSTEC summit, the Prime Minister said, “BIMSTEC works as a bridge connecting South Asia and South-East Asia. It is emerging as an effective platform to open new avenues of regional contact, cooperation and prosperity. ”PM Modi also emphasized the need to increase the scope and abilities of Bimstec, welcomed the institution of home ministers to institutionalize and offered to hold the first meeting in India.
Protected and Safe Indian Ocean our shared priority
PM Modi said, “This platform can play an important role in the fight against human trafficking including cyber crime, cyber security threats, terrorism and drugs.” The Prime Minister said that free, open, protected and safe Indian Ocean is our shared priority.
