Islamabad: The Indian education system is making its mark in Asia. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has also praised India’s current education system. According to the news of the newspaper ‘Express Tribune’, the Manila-based ADB has made this comment in response to Pakistan’s request for financial assistance to improve its education system and provide education to all children who do not go to school. ADB has recommended that the government adopt a strategic and multi-stakeholder approach and implement schemes like the new centrally sponsored ‘ULLAS’ of the Government of India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved a new centrally sponsored scheme ‘ULLAS’ for a period of five years covering all aspects of “education for all”. The Indian ‘ULLAS’ scheme aims to provide not only basic literacy but also critical life skills required for the 21st century. These skills include financial literacy, digital literacy, commercial skills, health care awareness, child care and education and family welfare. A report of Pakistan’s Planning Commission said that the country’s education system is not doing well. Except Islamabad, all 134 districts are lagging behind in indicators ranging from learning outcomes to public financing. (Language)
