Vatican City: Pope Leo 14th, an American citizen, who became Pope for the first time in the history of Europe, has made a big statement about the Gaza war at the famous St. Peters Square in Vatican City on Wednesday. The Pope has appealed to the hearts of the immediate entry of human assistance in the Gaza Strip and ending the ongoing struggle there on the occasion of the chairmanship of its first weekly General Audience (General Assembly).
Addressing a gathering during this period, Pope Leo 14th said, “I reiterate my appeal to allow respectable humanitarian aid in Gaza and end enmity, which children, elderly and sick are paying the price. It is heartfelt.”
Presence of 40,000 devotees, call for peace
According to the Vatican, around 40,000 people were present in this first general meeting. At the same time, about 2 lakh devotees took part in the recent inauguration ceremony of Pope Leo 14th. The Pope started the gathering with his most popular message “Shanti Aapke Ho Ho”. Former Chicago’s Cardinal Robert Prevost, known as Pope Leo 14th, specially welcomed pilgrims from various countries during the meeting and blessed the children.
Vatican’s activism over ceasefire talks
Pope Leo 14th on Tuesday spoke to Italy’s Prime Minister Georgia Meloni over phone. During this time he reiterated the desire of the Vatican to host the next phase of the ceasefire talks between Russia and Ukraine. Along with this, he also advocated the efforts of humanism and peace in Gaza. (AP)
