Prime Minister Narendra Modi was warmly welcomed by the Indian community in Mauritius on Tuesday and the women of the community honored him through a traditional Bihari cultural presentation called ‘Geet Gawai’.
‘Geet Gawai’ is a traditional Bhojpuri music group that symbolizes the rich cultural heritage brought by women in the Bhojpuri region of India to Mauritius.
Modi said on ‘X’, “I am overwhelmed by the warm reception made by the Indian community in Mauritius. His deep association with Indian heritage, culture and values is really inspiring. This bond of history and heart has been going on for generations. ” Prime Minister Modi was seen enjoying the traditional song.
He was warmly welcomed by the Indian community when he arrived at Mauritius’ hotel. The people present in the hotel welcomed him with the slogan ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and waved the Indian tricolor flag.
Recognizing the cultural significance of ‘Geet Gawai’, it was included in the representative list of UNESCO’s abstract cultural heritage in December 2016.
According to singers, ‘Geet Gawai’ has deep importance in life, especially in marriage, where it begins with the call of gods.
Prime Minister Modi reached Mauritius on Tuesday and welcomed him by garlanding his counterpart at Mauritius at Sir Sivasagar Ramgulam International Airport.
Modi said in a post on the social media platform ‘X’, “I have reached Mauritius. I am grateful to my friend Prime Minister Dr. Naveen Chandra Ramgulam, who gave me a special welcome at the airport. The journey is a great opportunity to meet a valuable friend and find new avenues of cooperation in various fields. ” He said in the post, “Today I will meet President Dharam Gokhul, Prime Minister Naveen Chandra Ramgulam and address a community program in the evening.”
Ramgulam was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister, Chief Justice of Mauritius, President of National Assembly, Leader of Opposition, Foreign Minister, Cabinet Secretary, President of Grand Port Zilla Parishad and many others.
A total of 200 dignitaries were present to welcome Modi.
