Karachi: Pakistan itself is in bad condition. On one hand, people are suffering due to inflation and hunger, while on the other hand, the country is facing economic crisis. Now in such a situation, bad news has also come out regarding Pakistan International Airlines. In fact, due to lack of essential spare parts and other equipment, 17 out of 34 aircraft of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) have been stopped from flying, due to which they are out of service. “The situation is that 17 aircraft of the PIA fleet are out of service,” an airline source said. Currently seven of the 12 aircraft in the airline’s Boeing 777 fleet are grounded. Additionally, seven of the 17 Airbus A320 aircraft are also unairworthy.

Lack of money is a big problem

Pakistan International Airlines’ small ATR aircraft are also no exception, with only two of the five aircraft currently operational. Aircraft grounded are lacking essential components including engines, landing gear, auxiliary power units (APUs) and other critical parts. Sources in the airlines said lack of funds and lack of proper approval from the concerned ministries were the main reasons for the problem.

The condition may get worse

Sources said although it is still too early to assess, if the current situation persists, the planned resumption of services to Europe, which is scheduled to begin with two weekly flights to Paris, may be delayed. This shortage has also affected the process of the government’s Privatization Commission. In the same year, the government had made an unsuccessful attempt to privatize 60 percent of the shares in the debt-ridden airline, but it could only get a bid of 10 billion Pakistani rupees, which was much less than the reserve price. The Privatization Commission rejected it and decided to bid afresh. (Language)
