Violence during anti-encroachment operation in Pakistan (symbolic photo)
Karachi: At least 12 policemen were injured after an anti-encroachment operation turned violent in Pakistan’s Sindh province. The anti-encroachment drive was protested in Kasimabad area of Hyderabad city. During this period, clashes have also taken place between the police and the protesting people. Despite huge opposition from the people, the anti-encroachment campaign is continuing.

Actually, the officials were working on a plan to restore the irrigation canal and build a 24-feet wide road in the Qasimabad area. To complete the plan, when the officials reached the spot with policemen to remove the encroachment, they faced strong resistance from the local people.
Police opened fire
People and local residents protesting against the encroachment pelted stones at the officials and broke the glass panes of some government vehicles. The police responded by firing in the air and firing tear gas shells to disperse the crowd, due to which several protesters were also injured.

Regarding this entire matter, Hyderabad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Zainul Abedin Memon said, “About 12 policemen and some people have been injured in the violence by the mob.” He said the campaign continued on Wednesday also. The campaign is being led by the Irrigation Department. (Language)
