Pakistan PTI Protest: Thousands of people have taken to the streets in Pakistan. Supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan are demanding his release. The capital Islamabad has been converted into a cantonment. Violence has also taken place at many places during the protests. Meanwhile, America has advised Pakistani officials regarding action against the protesters. America said that officials should respect human rights and fundamental freedoms.
One policeman killed, several injured
Thousands of protesters have gathered near Islamabad on the appeal of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan. Many protesters have also entered inside the capital. At least one policeman has died and many people have been injured in the clashes during this period.
Imran had announced
Jailed 72-year-old Imran Khan had announced “do or die” for nationwide protests on November 24. He made this announcement on 13 November. Khan had reportedly condemned the theft of mandate, unjust arrest of people and the passage of the 26th amendment to the Constitution. On the 26th amendment of the Constitution, he had said that it has strengthened the “dictatorial rule”. Khan has been lodged in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail since last year and has more than 200 cases registered against him, according to his party.

What did the US State Department spokesperson say?
“We support freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and association around the world, including in Pakistan,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said at his daily press conference. We call on the protesters to demonstrate peacefully and refrain from violence.” He said in response to a question, ”We call on the Pakistani authorities to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms and maintain law and order. Miller said the US supports the right of people in Pakistan to protest peacefully.

Let us tell you that the protesters, led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi, had started their journey with the aim of staging a sit-in at D Chowk, located near several important government buildings in the capital Islamabad. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has claimed that police have arrested more than 3500 party leaders and workers in Punjab and Islamabad. (Language)
