US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday (local time) that Washington is continuing trade talks with India. Significantly, this statement came after Trump’s announcement of 25 percent tariff on India.
In response to ANI, if the US is ready to interact with India on the tariff’s front, Trump said, “We are talking to them right now. We will see what happens. Again, India was the highest tariff country in the world. He had 175 percent and more than that.”
After the announcement of 25 percent tariff and fine on purchasing Russian oil, he emphasized that India is one of the countries that imposed high tariffs on the US.
He made this comment during a press conference at the White House, which was held to commemorate the signature of a Congress bill.
Earlier today, Trump announced a 25 percent tariff on India in a Truth Social conversation, as well as fined for buying Russian oil. He further explained that these tariffs will be applicable from August 1.
Trump said in his post, “Remember, India is our friend, but we have done relatively less trade with them over the years, because their tariffs are very high, which are the highest in the world, and they have the most rigorous and unpleasant non-maudric trade obstacles than any country.”
The post further stated, “Apart from this, they have always bought a large part of their military equipment from Russia and are Russia’s largest buyer with China, at a time when everyone wants Russia to stop the murders in Ukraine, everything is not well! So India will pay 25% tariff from 1 August, as well as penalty for the above.
During the conference, the US President further clarified the terms of punishment imposed on India, saying that New Delhi is part of the BRICS group and described the alliance as “anti -America”. He also accused the alliance of “attacking the dollar”.
Trump said, “We are currently interacting, and it is also a BRICS. BRICS is basically a group of anti -America countries, and India is a member of it, if you can believe. It’s an attack on the dollar, and we will not allow anyone to attack the dollar. It is partially BRICS, and partially business. It was a business deficit. Our Ghata was too much.”
He emphasized Indo-US relations and described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as his “friend”, as well as mentioning America’s trade deficit with India. He further said that if the Indo-US agreement reaches a certain tariff, it does not have much difference “.
The US President said, “As you know, Prime Minister Modi is my friend, but he does nothing more than business with us. They sell us a lot, but we do not buy anything from them. Why do they know why? Because the tariff is too much. Their tariff is the highest in the world.
He further said, “Let’s see what happens. It doesn’t matter whether we make any compromise or or we spend a special fee on them or not. But you will know at the end of this week. 1 August is a big day for this country because this day will come in America as much as we have never seen before.”
The announcement was made after the announcement made on 22 April, when Trump imposed a 26 percent tariff on imported Indian goods in the US, and later stopped those “mutual” charges.
