Talks between Russia and America in Saudi Arabia
Riyadh: Top officials from Russia and America met in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday and started negotiations to end the war in Ukraine and improve relations. The meeting held at Diriah Palace in Riyadh is another important step towards changing the US policy of isolating Russia by the Trump administration. It aims to pave the way for the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Ukraine has made its stand clear
Earlier this month, Trump had replaced the US policy towards Ukraine and Russia, saying he and Putin had agreed to start negotiations to end the war. Ukrainian officials did not participate in the meeting and Ukrainian President Volodimir Jailonsky said on Monday that if Kiev does not participate, his country will not accept the result.
America-Russia relations are in a bad phase
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavarov and Putin’s foreign affairs advisor Yuri Ushakov reached Saudi Rajdhani on Monday night. Ushakov said that the talks would be ‘completely bilateral’ and will not include Ukrainian officials. State Department spokesman Tammy Bruce said that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Special Envoy Steve Witchoff will meet the Russian delegation. The dialogue is a symbol of remarkable expansion in the US-Russia relations, which took place after the war that has been released for almost three years. Due to this war, America-Russia relations have reached the worst level in decades.
