Microsoft, one of the world’s largest software companies, has elected Indian-origin CEO Satya Nadella as its chairman. Nadella (53) will replace John W. Thomson, who will continue his role as the lead independent director. Microsoft announced on Wednesday that the board’s independent directors unanimously elected Nadella to the role of chairman of the board. In this role, Nadella will lead the work of setting the agenda for the board, the company said in a statement.
3rd Chairman of Microsoft
Nadella is the third CEO of the company and will be the third chairman in the company’s history. Prior to this, Bill Gates and Thomson have been the chairman of the company. Nadella became the CEO of Microsoft in 2014 after Steve Ballmer. Satya was awarded the title of Financial Times Person of the Year in the year 2019. At the same time, in the year 2020, he has also been honored as the Global Indian Business Icon. When Nadella was made the CEO of Microsoft, Bill Gates again joined Microsoft to train him. Journey from engineer to chairman
Nadella has been associated with Microsoft for a long time and he joined the company in 1992 as a young engineer. After this, he progressed a lot and today he has reached the position of chairman. After joining the company in 1992, he was made the Vice President of Microsoft Central in 2000, after that he became the Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Business Solutions, after which he was made the Senior Vice President of Microsoft Online Service. His success continued and then Satya Nadella became the President of Server and Tools Division and he brought a lot of profit to the company.
Schooling in Hyderabad
Satya Nadella was born in 1967 in a Telugu family in Anantapur district of Hyderabad, India. His father was an administrative officer and mother was a Sanskrit subject lecturer. After completing his early education from Hyderabad Public School, he studied electrical engineering from Manipal Institute of Technology in 1988. After this, he went to America to do Masters in Computer Science. In America, he completed Master of Science from Wisconsin University and MBA from Chicago University. Satya married Anupama in 1992, who was the daughter of his father’s friend. The couple later became parents of three children, including two daughters and a son.
The prime minister arrived at the wedding uninvited
Satya’s father BN Yugandhar was the secretary of the then Prime Minister Narasimha Rao. He did not invite Rao to Satya and Anupama’s wedding because both the families wanted a simple wedding. When Rao came to know about it, he suddenly reached the wedding and also complained for not being invited. Satya’s father-in-law KR Venugopal was also an administrative officer.
How much salary do you get
Satya Nadella’s annual income increased by 66 percent to $ 42.9 million (Rs 304.59 crore) in 2018-19. Although his salary is said to be $ 23 lakh (Rs 16.33 crore), shares also form part of his salary.
