Second earthquake in two days in Afghanistan: 1400 people killed so far

A 5.5 magnitude earthquake occurred in the southeastern area of Afghanistan on Tuesday. Reuters quoted the GFZ as saying, while according to the US Geological Survey (USGS), its center was 34 km north-east from Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar province.

A spokesman said, “The rescue operation is going on in all the affected areas. Where the helicopters could not land, the commando forces were aircraft and the injured were taken out of the debris and sent to safe places.”

Meanwhile, the United Nations human coordinator Indrika Ratvate feared that this disaster “millions of people may be affected.” He said, “We cannot forget the people of Afghanistan, who are struggling with many crises and shaking. The tolerance of communities has now reached the peak.”
