The U.S. weather service has issued a winter storm warning from western Kansas to the coastal states of Maryland, Delaware and Virginia, unusually putting an area of 1,500 miles (2,400 kilometers) in immediate danger. “A disruptive winter storm could cause widespread, heavy snowfall from the Central Plains to the Mid-Atlantic by Monday,” the NWS said in its latest report. The agency warned that areas from northeastern Kansas to north-central Missouri. There will be “the heaviest snowfall in a decade”.

The mercury may fall as much as 10 degrees Celsius below normal along the US Gulf Coast. The NWS predicts severe storms could hit the Lower Mississippi Valley.
