Shahbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Islamabad: Shahbaz Sharif’s government in Pakistan has surprised everyone by suddenly declaring a state of emergency today. This emergency was imposed on the occasion of International Literacy Day. It is being said that this is a kind of “education emergency”. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif declared ‘education emergency’ with the intention of educating 2.60 crore children deprived of schools in the country. According to the news of official Associated Press of Pakistan, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced this step and urged the private sector and civil organizations to cooperate with the government.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shehbaz (72) reiterated his commitment to push the education agenda and strive for an information-enabled, strong and sustainable nation. “We have declared education emergency across the country, launched enrolment drive for students and introduced mid-day meals for children in schools,” he said. The prime minister said literacy is a fundamental human and constitutional right that guarantees the future of our country. He said literacy is not just the ability to read and write but it is a “gateway to empowerment, economic opportunities and active participation in society”.
Such an emergency was imposed 3 months ago as well
Earlier in May, Shahbaz Sharif had also declared an education emergency and vowed to enroll about 26 million children who were not attending school.
