Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari
New Delhi: Shahi Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari has asked the Bangladesh government to stop injustice and attacks against Hindus. He wrote in a letter, “As a trusted neighbor, a close ally of Bangladesh and a guardian of our shared cultural heritage, I expect the current head of Bangladesh, Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus, to desist from any kind of violence against Hindu minorities.” He must take immediate action to stop the injustice and ensure that his international reputation remains unblemished.”
‘Bangladesh has been a close ally’
Ahmed Bukhari said in the letter that Bangladesh has had close relations with India since its formation. He said, “Since the founding of Bangladesh, our national leadership, media, civil society and influential people have maintained close relations with Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, his daughter Sheikh Hasina Wajid and his party Awami League. “Bangladesh has always stood by us as a close ally in international issues and matters related to the Muslim world.”
Shahi Imam mentioned United Nations
Shahi Imam also said that after Sheikh Hasina left for India, both Muslim and non-Muslim supporters of the Awami League were targeted due to the protests against her. He said that the injustice, attacks and unilateral actions against Hindu minorities are condemnable and should be stopped immediately. There is no justification for such actions. We were the first people to stand with them in every natural disaster. Bukhari also said in the letter that there is a Universal Declaration of the United Nations regarding the protection of equal rights of minorities, which is binding on all members of the international community and all member states of the United Nations.
Hindus are being attacked
It is noteworthy that, after the removal of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from the post in August this year, many Hindus and Hindu organizations are under attack in Bangladesh. Last month, Bangladeshi authorities arrested Hindu spiritual leader Chinmoy Krishna Das on treason charges. Chinmoy Krishna Das has not yet got bail from the court.
