Sheikh Hasina’s niece Tulip Siddiq
London: The interim government of Bangladesh is targeting Siddiqu, the niece of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and a member of the Labor Party in the British Parliament. Bangladeshi officials have issued an arrest warrant against Tulip. Tulip Siddique has refused to do any wrongdoing after the news of the arrest warrant issued by Dhaka’s Anti -Corruption Commission (ACC). Siddiq resigned from the post of Finance Minister of Britain in January this year. He had said that his family contacts are hindering the work of the government led by Prime Minister Kir Stormer.
What did the spokesperson of Tulip Siddiq say
A spokesman for Tulip Siddiq said in a statement that allegations of corruption against Siddiqu are completely false. The statement said, “The ACC has not responded to Siddiq or has not made any allegations against him directly or through his lawyers.” Siddiq does not know anything about the ongoing hearing in Dhaka and he has no information about any arrest warrant, which is being released.
There is no extradition treaty between Britain and Bangladesh
The spokesperson insisted that there is no basis for any allegations against Siddiqu, who lived in London. He said that there is absolutely no truth in the charge that he has acquired a plot in Dhaka in illegal ways. There is no formal extradition treaty between Britain and Bangladesh, so there is ambiguity about further action after the news of the Bangladeshi arrest warrant being issued.
What is the matter?
According to the charge sheet lodged by Bangladesh’s Anti -Corruption Commission, Tulip Siddiqu is accused of illegally acquired a 7200 sqft plot in the diplomatic zone of Purbachal New Town, the outskirts of Dhaka, during the tenure of Sheikh Hasina. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad Zakir Hussain Ghalib issued an arrest warrant saying that if the accused do not appear in the court till April 27, they should be declared a fugitive. In this case, apart from Tulip Siddiqu, a total of 52 others have also been issued an arrest warrant. These include his mother Sheikh Rehana, brother Radwan, sister Azmina and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. (Language)
