Bratislava: Slovakia President Peter Palegini said that his country “fully supports” India’s efforts for permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The President of Slovakia said in a statement after meeting President Draupadi Murmu on a two-day state visit here, “We are also a major supporter of the multilateral functioning of the world with India, and we also support the functioning of our international organizations. It is also important for Slovakia and I have emphasized this in a meeting with the former President of the United Nations General Assembly.”
The United Nations Security Council has 15 members, five of which are permanent – America, Britain, France, Russia and China. The five members have veto powers, which allow them to stop any proposal of the Security Council, including the admission of the new member countries in the United Nations or proposals related to enrollment for the new General Secretary of the United Nations. The two leaders met for talks after a formal salute guard and traditional ‘Bread and Salt’ ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan here.
President Murmu ate salt-bread

India and Slovakia signed two MoUs – between the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) and the Slovak Business Agency, and Sushma Swaraj Swaraj Foreign Service Institute (SSIFS) and the Ministry of Slovak Foreign and European Affairs. In his statement after the meeting, Murmu thanked Slovakia for assisting Indian students at the time of war in Ukraine.
President Murmu liked Slovakia
He said that India would always remember Slovakia’s “cooperation and generosity”, which would strengthen the relationship as a true friend and partner. He said that the two countries reviewed all issues of bilateral relations and shared global and regional matters. In his message in the guest book at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Murmu said that she has brought wishes to 1.4 billion citizens of the world’s largest democracy (India). Murmu was presented a copy of the first Slovak translation of the ancient Indian texts, Upanishads by Slovak President Palegini.
Literature scholar Robert Gafric dedicated five years to translate ten Chief Upanishads from Sanskrit to Slovak. Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS) Publication Home, translation published by VEDA, presents the original translation of the Upanishads from Sanskrit. Murmu arrived here on Wednesday in the second phase of her journey to two countries. He is the second Indian President to travel to the Republic of Slovak. (Language)
