Washington: Bad days have come for the snakes in the grass who take foreign donations and plot against India. Modi government has made the rules and regulations for all NGOs receiving foreign funding so strict that it will become extremely difficult for them to receive donations. Till now, some snakes in the grass have been plotting against the country by getting foreign funding in the name of NGOs. Many such cases have come to light in the country, in which various NGOs used foreign donations to plot a heinous conspiracy against India. But now the Indian government has amended the law and made it extremely strict. This has baffled even countries like America.
US Democratic Party leader and senior MP Tim Kane has said that India’s Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) has made it “very difficult” for NGOs operating there to receive donations from people in other countries. During a discussion in Parliament on ‘Anti-NGO Laws and Other Methods of Democratic Suppression’ organized by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Kane said, “India has a law called the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act which was amended in 2010 and amended again in 2020. Due to this, it has become very difficult for NGOs operating in India to receive donations from people in other countries of the world.
There is panic among all the NGO operators who benefit from the government’s move
This law of the Central Government has created panic among all the NGOs running on foreign funds. Kane said, “Amnesty International and other organizations have had to either limit or shut down their services in India because their operations depend on the funds raised through donations.” He said that due to this act, human rights activists and NGOs feel intimidated and this hinders their work. Kane said that this step has really harmed those who are the beneficiaries of the efforts of these organizations. He gave the example of ‘Sambhali Trust’ which is an organization in Rajasthan. This organization is dedicated to empowering women especially those who are deprived or oppressed. Kane said that this organization had “a lot of difficulty” in receiving and transferring donations to continue its work. He said, “There are such laws all over the world but I just want to focus on the fact that these steps are a form of oppression that stops the work being done.”
India’s move caused panic
Kane said, “We often say that we are the oldest democracy in the world and they (India) are the largest democratic country in the world. We consider the relationship between America and India very important, but when organizations doing good work at the grassroots level face restrictions or cuts in their sources of funding, then we have to pay attention to it. The senator said that the US State Department and various other agencies helped Sambhali Trust to deal with these financial constraints, but there are many other NGOs who are facing challenges in furthering their services.
