Snow storm wreaks havoc in America
The situation became dangerous in some parts of America on Sunday due to snowfall, storm and falling temperatures. Due to this snow storm, the heaviest snowfall in a decade is expected in some areas. An advisory has already been issued by the Meteorological Department in the country. It is extremely cold here, due to which rail, air and road traffic has been badly affected. People are scared due to the arrival of snow storm in the country.
Snow covered major roads across large parts of Kansas, western Nebraska and Indiana. The National Weather Service issued a snowstorm warning for Kansas and Missouri. Due to the snow storm here, winds were blowing at a speed of 45 miles per hour (72 km per hour). The warning is expected to reach New Jersey by Monday.
“In locations across the region that receive the most snowfall, this could be the heaviest snowfall in at least a decade,” the weather service said Sunday morning. About 63 million people in the U.S. were under some type of icy weather warning, alert or watch on Sunday, according to Bob Oraveck of the National Weather Service. Due to this snow storm, at least 8 inches thick snow was expected to fall.

Officials warned that road travel could be ‘very difficult or impossible’. By Sunday, hundreds of car accidents had occurred in Missouri, Virginia, Indiana and Kansas. A portion of I-70 in Kansas was closed as of Saturday afternoon. About 10 inches (25 cm) of snow fell in some parts of the state. While parts of Kansas and northern Missouri are expected to see more than 14 inches of snow and sleet.
Highway covered with snow and icy water
Several major highways in Indiana were completely covered with snow and icy water and local police urged travelers not to hit the road. New snowfall records were set in Louisville, Quebec, and Lexington, Kentucky, where 7.7 inches (19.5 cm) of snow fell in Louisville.
The temperature in Chicago on Sunday was between -12 to -7 degrees Celsius. The temperature dropped to -11 degrees Celsius in International Falls, Minnesota. Bone-chilling cold and strong winds are expected to hit the eastern two-thirds of the US through Monday.

More than 20 trains were canceled on Sunday. More than 200 flights were canceled from Louis Lambert International Airport.
School holidays and shutdowns
School closures were announced in several states such as Indiana, Kentucky, and Virginia. Jefferson County Public Schools in Kentucky canceled classes and all extracurricular activities for Monday, which was students’ return-to-school day.
Due to the dangerous effect of winter, the rapidly warming region in the Arctic and the polar atmosphere, these types of storms can increase further. The effect of cold is likely to increase in different parts of the country in the next few days. Special measures are being taken for relief in the areas affected by snowfall.
