South Africa’s table mountain caught fire
Cape Town: There is a fierce fire in the slopes of the table mountain in South Africa. More than 100 firefighters have been deployed to extinguish the fire. National park officials said efforts are on to control it before the fire spread to Cape Town. The table mountain is a flat top mountain located in Cape Town, South Africa which is famous for its natural beauty and biodiversity.
Helicopters and aircraft deployed
‘South African National Parks’, which manages the table mountain, reported that four helicopters and two aircraft have been deployed with 115 fire personnel to extinguish the fire. There has also been a lot of success in controlling the fire. The fire on the top of the table mountain was set since Sunday which spread to the slopes due to strong winds.
Hot and dry weather between December to April
There is also a meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors of G20 countries in Cape Town. However, there is no threat to the meeting with this fire. Fire is common in the Cape Town region in hot and dry weather between December to April. During this time strong coastal winds move and the fire spreads.
Harassed fire broke out in 2021
The fire on the table mountain in 2021 was the most frightening in recent years which destroyed the historic buildings of the University of Cape Town and had to evacuate many areas. No casualties have been reported in the recent fire. National park officials said that firefighters will be stationed overnight as the fire can spread when the winds are strong. (AP)
