New Delhi: German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who is on a visit to India, on Friday advocated a political solution based on international law to deal with global conflicts, saying it is inevitable to preserve prosperity, trade and economic cooperation. He was addressing the ’18th Asia-Pacific Conference’ of German Business 2024. During this, Scholz also mentioned the continuing tensions in regions such as the Middle East, South and East China Sea, and the threats posed by Russia’s actions in Ukraine. At the same time, they made the South and East China Sea the new focal point of conflict in the world.
Scholz said during this time that West Asia continues to be a center of tension and is a reminder of the human cost of division due to the inability of the world’s countries to reach a political solution. He said the Green Peninsula and the South and East China Seas have become new flashpoints of potential conflict, even though ‘we all hope’ these conflicts can be prevented. “In a multipolar world there is no global watchdog, no watchdog that can monitor our common rules,” the German Chancellor cautioned. If Russia succeeds in its illegal and brutal war against Ukraine, it will have ramifications far beyond Europe’s borders.

Scholz said the visit of a German ship to India as well as Japan, Korea and South-East Asian countries underlines ‘our commitment’ to the high seas and international law. Scholz also said that India is the world’s largest democracy and the world’s fastest growing major economy, with its renewable energy sector growing almost faster than any other major economy.
