Sri Lanka will send three military teams there to provide rescue, relief and medical assistance to the earthquake affected Myanma to provide Rs 1 million financial assistance. Sri Lankan Ministry of Defense gave this information.
The ministry said on Friday that the special aircraft of Sri Lanka will leave on Saturday with relief assistance for the earthquake victims in Myanmar. He said that apart from the help of US $ 10 lakh from Sri Lanka, three military teams will be sent to provide rescue, relief and medical assistance.
Additionally, three leaders of the Buddhist sect have arranged relief assistance in view of close religious relations between the two countries. ‘The Temple of the Tooth’, the major pilgrimage place of Buddhist majority, said that it is collecting one crore 50 lakhs separately for Myanma.
There is a historical relationship between Myanmar and Sri Lanka due to Therism being associated with Buddhism. Therism is the oldest branch of Buddhism. More than 3,100 people were killed, around 5,000 people were injured and more than 370 people went missing in the earthquake on March 28 in Myanmar.
