Polio Vaccination In Afghanistan
Dubai: The Taliban have halted a polio vaccination campaign in Afghanistan, the United Nations said on Monday. Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only two countries where polio has not been eradicated. The halt was reported to UN agencies just before the vaccination campaign was due to begin in September and no reason was given for it.
How many cases of polio are there in Afghanistan?
There has been no immediate response from the Taliban government. A top World Health Organization (WHO) official said he had received information about discussions about vaccinating people at places like mosques instead of going door-to-door. The World Health Organization has confirmed 18 cases of polio in Afghanistan this year. The polio eradication campaign has seen many problems after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The World Health Organization has also expressed concern over this.
