Karachi/Islamabad: A top Baloch nationalist leader and other party workers survived narrowly on Saturday in Pakistan’s Balochistan province when a suicide bomber blew himself up near his picket site. Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) president Sardar Akhtar Mangal said that four people involved in the dharna were injured in the suicide attack. Mangal Baloch is leading a long march to be taken out from Vadh to Quetta to protest against the arrest of leaders and activists of the Yakjehti Committee (BYC), which started on Friday.

Blowed up himself

According to officials, the suicidal attacker exploded himself near the dharna site of Baloch leaders near Lucky Pass in Mastang, about 50 km south of Quetta. He told that Mangal and other Baloch leaders and workers narrowly survived in this attack. Assistant Commissioner (AC) Akram Harifal, Assistant Commissioner of Mastang, told the media that the personnel of ‘Levies Force’ saw a suspect near the picket site and when they proceeded to interrogate him, he tried to run away. According to Harifal, the ‘Levies Force’ personnel chased the suspect, but he exploded and blew himself up.

Leaders narrowly survived the attack

He said, “No person involved in BNP-M dharna was injured in suicide attack and they are all fine.” According to Harifal, security arrangements have been increased near the protest site and additional personnel have been deployed there. BYC chief Dr. Maharrang Baloch and other party leaders and activists were arrested earlier this month under his anti -terrorism laws. These people were protesting to search for missing Baloch persons and to protest against the alleged injustice to Balochistan.

Claims to detain more than 250 workers

BNP-M had earlier claimed that the police had taken over 250 party workers into custody near Mastang. Harifal said that since the government had approved the protest of BNP, it is providing security to the rally and a suicide attack near the picket site is being investigated. After the attack, Mangal said in a post on ‘X’ that “he and all his party workers are safe.” However, while addressing his supporters, Mangal claimed that four people involved in the strike were injured in the attack. He said, “We have no danger from any group. If we have any danger, it is from the state.” (Language)
