Dhaka: After ousting former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, students have now started putting pressure on the judges as well. After this, the Supreme Court on Wednesday suspended 12 High Court judges from judicial activities. The Awami League government led by ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina collapsed in August following mass protests against the controversial reservation system.

Hasina had left the country after resigning from the post of Prime Minister on August 5. Chief Justice Syed Rafat Ahmed took the decision after hundreds of protesting students involved in the anti-discrimination movement surrounded the High Court complex on Wednesday and demanded the removal of “Awami League-supporting fascist judges”, The Daily Star reported. demanded. The report quoted Supreme Court Registrar General Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan as saying, “12 judges of the (High Court) will not be allotted benches, which means they will not be allowed to carry on with judicial activities after the end of the holidays in the courts on October 20.” Will not be allowed to take part.”

Students are demanding resignation of judges

The students began their protest at the Supreme Court complex, demanding the resignation of Awami League-affiliated judges who are “toeing the party line,” news portal bdnews24.com reported. After the announcement of suspension of these judges from judicial activities, the protesting students postponed their protest till Sunday. Bhuyan was quoted as saying in the news of ‘bdnews24.com’ that this decision was taken because the said 12 judges had not resigned and there was no legal framework in place to remove them. Organizer Sarjis Alam, who led the protest, said the students were demanding the resignation of Sheikh Hasina, the Awami League, the “fascist government” and “biased” judges, according to the report.
