Earthquake in Taiwan
Taipei: On Wednesday morning, a strong tremor of earthquake was felt in Taipei, the capital of Taiwan. The earthquake saw a situation of chaos. The Central Meteorological Administration has measured the intensity of the earthquake 5.8. The earthquake continued to vibrate in buildings for a few seconds in Taipei. According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the earthquake was about 21 km in the south-south east of Yilan on the northeast coast. It was at a depth of 69 km from the surface of the Earth.
Taiwan’s status in terms of earthquake
The most terrible earthquake occurred in Taiwan on 21 September 1999 with a intensity of 7.7. In this, 2400 people were killed and about one lakh people were injured. In terms of earthquake, Taiwan falls in a very sensitive zone and earthquakes often come here. From 1900 to 1991, about 2200 earthquakes occurred in the country every year and 214 were dangerous. From 1991 to 2004, 18,649 tremors of earthquakes occurred. In 1999, the biggest earthquake occurred and 49,919 times the earth shivered. Taiwan has caused a 96 -time deadly earthquake since 1900 so far.
Different earthquake categories
Earthquakes with 2.5 to 5.4 intensity occur in the minor category. Earthquakes with 5.5 to 6 intensity are considered mild dangerous, there is a possibility of minor damage. If there is an earthquake of 6 to 7 intensity, then the chances of damage also increase. Earthquakes of 7 to 7.9 are considered dangerous. Earthquakes are feared to crack or fall in buildings. All earthquakes with intensity above 7.9 are placed in a very dangerous category.
Why earthquake comes
Earth is located on tactoneic plates and its core has liquid. Tactonic plates sometimes collide. Due to the collision, energy comes out outward and this disorder causes an earthquake. (AP)
