Kabul: A Taliban leader has said that there is no need for laws in Western countries in Afghanistan and as long as Sharia laws are effective, democracy does not exist. Taliban leader Hibetullah Akhundzada made this comment while preaching on Eid-ul-Fitr at Idgah Mosque in Kandahar. ‘We will make our own laws’
Emphasizing the importance of Islamic laws, Akhundzada said, “There is no need for the laws of Western countries. We will make our own laws.” Akhundzada criticized the West and said that non-Muslims have united against Muslims. Citing the Israeli-Hamas war in Gaza, the Taliban leader said that the US and other countries together have shown enmity towards Islam. Akhundzada said that democracy in Afghanistan has ended and Sharia is applicable.

Explain that due to Sharia law in the Taliban, many restrictions have been implemented on Afghan women and girls, due to which they have been denied education, jobs and most public places. These measures have isolated the Taliban internationally, however, they have formed diplomatic relations with some countries such as China and the United Arab Emirates.
Akhundzada strictly implemented policies
In 2021, the Taliban captured Afghanistan. After being in power in Afghanistan, Akhundzada strictly implemented the policies, while some officials initially promised more liberal governance. The Taliban has no strong opposition inside the country. (AP)
