The talk between PM Modi and the President of Sri Lanka
India and Sri Lanka on Saturday signed a major defense agreement on Saturday to institutionalize a structure for intensive cooperation in the military sector. Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that the security of the two countries is connected to each other and depends on each other. After negotiations between Prime Minister Modi and Sri Lankan President Anuraa Kumara Disanayake, the two sides signed a total of seven agreements, including an agreement on the development of Tinkomali as an energy center and a power grid connectivity. In the meeting, the Prime Minister advocated resolving the controversial issue of fishermen between the two countries from a human point of view and hoped that Sri Lanka would fulfill the aspirations of the Tamil people and conduct the Elections of the Provincial Council.
Many agreements were signed between India and Sri Lanka
PM Modi announced that a support package of about 2.4 billion Lankan rupees would be provided for the social and economic development of the eastern provinces of Sri Lanka. The Modi-Disanayak talks revealed more than 10 concrete results, the defense agreement is being considered a major step towards strengthening strategic relations. The agreement was reached in Sri Lanka about 35 years after the intervention of the Indian Peace Defense Army. Disanayake said in his statement that he has assured Prime Minister Modi that Sri Lanka will not allow its territory to be used in any way for the adverse steps of India’s security interests.

Prime Minister Modi and President Disanayake also inaugurated the Samapur Solar Energy Project through digital medium. Modi said, “Sampur solar power plant will be helpful for Sri Lanka’s energy security. The agreements made to build a multi-product pipeline and to develop Tinkomali as an energy center will benefit all Sri Lanka people. “He said that the grid inter-contact agreement between the two countries will open power export options for Sri Lanka. Modi said that India will also provide assistance for Sri Lanka’s specific digital identity project.
‘India stands with the people of Sri Lanka’
PM Modi said, “Our bilateral ‘loan reorganization agreement’ will provide immediate assistance and relief to the people of Sri Lanka. Today we have also decided to reduce interest rates.” He said, “It is a symbol that India still stands with the people of Sri Lanka.” The Prime Minister also spoke about Buddhist relations between the two countries. The sacred remains of Lord Buddha found in 1960 are being sent to Sri Lanka for exhibition. “He said,” Bharat will help in the renovation of Thirukoneshwaram Temple in Tinkomali.
