Several world leaders, including UN Secretary -General Antonio Guterres, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Karney, expressed condolences to the people of India on the aircraft accident in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
The Air India aircraft going to London with 242 passengers and crew members crashed in the residential area of Ahmedabad after a few minutes of flying. Many people are expected to be killed. The aircraft had 169 Indians, 53 British, one Canadian and seven Portuguese citizens and 12 crew members.
Kremlin said that President Putin expressed his condolences to Indian President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressed “deep condolences” on the plane crash.
Quoting Putin’s message, Tass said, “Please express my sympathy and support to the families of the deceased and wish those injured in the accident to be quick to recover.”
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said that he is “shocked” to know about the accident, including a Canadian citizen among the aircraft.
Carney said in a post on X, “My condolences are with the loved ones of all the people in the aircraft. Canada transport officers are in close contact with their counterparts and I am getting regular updates about the response to this tragedy.”
External Affairs Minister Anita Anand also described it as “tragic news” and “destructive”. “Canada is in close contact with its international partners. My sensations are with the families and loved ones of those killed in this tragedy,” he said in a post on X.
United Nations Secretary -General Guterres said he is “very sad” from the Air India accident and in a post on X he expressed “hearty condolences” to the affected families and loved ones.
European Commission Chairman Ursula von Der Leyen said in a post, “The tragic news of aircraft accident in Ahmedabad has come from India. I have deep condolences to the families and loved ones suffering from this terrible loss. We share your pain. Dear Narendra Modi, Europe stands unitedly with you and people of India in this hour of grief.”
Ukrainian President Jailonsky described it as “terrible news” and expressed deep condolences to Modi and all the people of India.
He wrote on X, “Our condolences are with relatives and close people of all the victims in India, Britain, Portugal and Canada. We share your shock and sorrow on this sad day. We all pray that more and more people are saved and wish to get the injured quickly.”
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrei Sibiha also expressed condolences to “friendly India, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar” and said in a post on X, “With great grief, we came to know about the tragic accident of Air India passenger aircraft in Ahmedabad in Ukraine. Our condolences.
German Foreign Minister Johan Wedful said that he is monitoring the “shocking photos” of Air India aircraft crashed in Ahmedabad and said in a post on X, “Since we are now knowing the details, my condolences and heartfelt prayers are with our friends and all those who are currently hopeful for their loved ones.”
Expressing his “deep sadness” over this tragic accident, Mujju said in a post on X, “In this difficult time, the government and people of Maldives stand in solidarity with the Government of India and the people.”
Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayake said that he is “very sad” from this tragic accident and he has expressed his heartfelt condolences to all the affected families on the ship. “
He said in a post on X, “This tragedy is equally sad that the citizens killed on the ground are as sad, whose life and future are affected by this tragedy. In this hour of deep grief, the people of Sri Lanka are standing in solidarity with India. Our condolences and prayers are with all the people affected.”
Malaysian Prime Minister Ibrahim said that he is “very distressed” to know about this tragic accident and said, “I express my heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of all the people affected by the Malaysia government and the public.”
He said on X, “We are partners in India’s grief and stand with full solidarity during the relief work. Our sensations and prayers are with the victims and all the people who mourn this terrible damage.”
Nepal’s Prime Minister Prachanda also said that he is “very sad” from this tragic aircraft accident. He said in a post on X, “My condolences are with the victims and their families. Nepal stands in solidarity with India in this hour of grief.”
