(Myanmar): The United Nations has appreciated India for helping the earthquake victims vigorously. A UN official has said that India has emerged as a prominent player in providing humanitarian aid after the disastrous earthquake in Myanmar, which has strengthened relief efforts by providing quick and adequate support. Sajjad Mohammad Sajid, head of the United Nations Office (OCHA) for the coordination of human affairs in Myanmar, praised India for rapid deployment of resources under ‘Operation Brahma’, under which over 1,000 metric tonnes including food, medical supply and field hospital assistance within a few days of the disaster.
Please tell that on March 28, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake occurred in Myanmar. Sajid said, “Early deployment of resources and facilities helped many people, especially in the urban areas of Mandley.” He mentioned that India has also sent a 200 -member search and rescue teams and medical workers to assist the most affected areas. Sajid said that the establishment of a field hospital in Mandalay is particularly important, as many local hospitals and operations theater are still closed and the trauma care is very limited. He said, “This field hospital is playing a very important role in a situation where the infrastructure is still trying to recover.”
There was a huge devastation in Mandley
The epicenter of the earthquake was near Mandalay. This has caused heavy destruction in Myanmar. According to the latest reports, the death of at least 3,500 people has been confirmed, 5,000 people have been injured and 200 people are still missing. United Nations officials estimate that more than one million people have been affected, out of which 90 people experienced the most intense earthquake. This disaster has damaged infrastructure in 58 out of 330 cities of Myanma. This has increased the existing challenges caused by internal conflict and logistics obstacles such as damaged roads, bridges and airports.
India will always be remembered for its role
Sajid highlighted the ongoing coordination between OCHA and Indian authorities, including direct contact with the Indian Embassy and regular consultation through the human donor group. He said, “We are in touch with member countries including India and I hope that India will play an important role in the reconstruction of people’s lives and livelihood in Myanma, which will require long -term support.” He also paid attention to India’s experience in reconstruction after disaster and cited successful reconstruction efforts after earthquake in Gujarat and Kashmir. Sajid insisted, “India has some best ways that he can also share with Myanmar and as a neighboring country with historical relations, its role will be important.” (Language)
