Cairo: US and Arab mediators made significant progress overnight towards an Israeli-Hamas ceasefire and the release of several people held hostage in the Gaza Strip, but no agreement has yet been reached. Officials have given information about this on Monday. The three officials acknowledged progress in ceasefire talks, saying the coming days would be crucial to ending more than 15 months of war that has destabilized Middle East Asia.
What did Hamas say?
The officials gave this information on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the talks. Apart from these three officials, a Hamas official also said that many obstacles still remain to be overcome. On several occasions last year, US officials said they were on the verge of reaching an agreement, but talks stalled.
