South African Imam Muhasin Hendrix
Johannesburg: The world’s first open gay Imam South Africa’s Muhasin Hendrix has been shot dead. He was the world’s first openly gay Imam. According to The Guardian report, Gay-Imam Muhasin Hendrix was shot near the southern city of Gaqbaraha on Saturday. He died of this. Police said that the slain gay Imam used to run a mosque as a safe shelter for the marginalized Muslims and other gays. When he was in the car with which person he was in the car, a vehicle stopped in front of him and blocked his exit.
Eastern Cape Force said in a statement, “Two unidentified suspects covered with faces and started firing bullets on the Imam’s vehicle. After this, the attackers ran away from the spot. The murder was done in Bethelsdorp near Gakbarha, who was earlier known as Port Elizabeth, “The purpose of murder is unknown and is part of the investigation.”
Police sought help from the eye of the murder
The police urged anyone who has any information related to this incident to come forward. The incident was followed by the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Instead Association condemned the murder. Executive Director Julia Ehrt said in a statement, “The news of the murder of Mukin Hendrix is in deep shock and calls for a thorough investigation to the authorities that we are afraid of hate crime.” Hendrix, one of the various LGBTQ advocacy groups, appeared as gay in 1996. He ran the Al-Gurbah Mosque in Wingu near his birthplace Cape Town.
