A person who attacked the author Salman Rushdie with a knife has been sentenced to 25 years of imprisonment. In 2022, Rushdie was attacked on stage during a speech in New York. Due to this attack, the award -winning writer lost one eye. In February, the jury found 27 -year -old Hadi Matter guilty of attempt to murder and attack. When the accused was sentenced on Friday, Rushdie did not come to the court room in Western New York, but he made his statement.

Matter was sentenced to a maximum of 25 years sentence for attempting to kill Rushdie and seven years for injuring a person on stage with him. District Attorney Jason Schmit, District Attorney of Chautaukwa County, said the two punishments would run together, as the two victims were injured in the same incident.
