Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayake with PM Modi.
Colombo: Sri Lanka is going to make neighboring countries sleep with one of its decisions during the ongoing tension between India and Pakistan on Pahalgam. This decision of Sri Lanka will make Pakistan and China worry. Sri Lankan President Anura Kumar Disanayake is going to approve a big defense agreement with India soon. Disanayake has said that the Defense Agreement with India will soon be introduced in Parliament. Disanayak was responding to the opposition’s criticism that his National People’s Power (NPP) government had signed a secret defense agreement with India when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on a visit to Sri Lanka from April 4 to 6 and demanding that the MoU be disclosed.
Let me tell you that Disanayake said during a television program on Friday night, “They are creating false stories. There are agreements between countries, they are open to both sides. It is our responsibility to ensure our safety. It is said in a section of the agreement. “Disanayake had ensured the Sri Lankan stance that its land would not be allowed to be used for any anti -India activity, which threatens the national security of his neighbor. In his address, Modi thanked Disanayake for this stance. The opposition has targeted the National People’s Power (NPP) to sign an agreement with India, as its native party Janata Vimukti Peramuna (JVP) led a bloody rebellion in 1987-90 in 1987-90 against India’s direct intervention in Sri Lanka’s Tamil minority issue.
The foundation of the agreement was laid during PM Modi’s visit to Sri Lanka
During Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Sri Lanka on April 5, a memorandum signed on defense cooperation between India and Sri Lanka will be effective for five years. This is the first time that India and Sri Lanka have signed a major defense agreement to institutionalize a structure for intensive participation in the military sector. Sri Lankan Defense Secretary Thuiyakatha said after signing the agreement, “India training around 750 Sri Lankan military personnel every year. This defense partnership remains an invaluable asset. “Thuiyakotha said,” As part of cooperation under this MoU, the two sides are committed to honor each other’s military and national laws as well as the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter.
