US President Donald Trump.
Washington: US President Donald Trump on Monday pardoned the accused of attack on the US Parliament House complex i.e. US Capitol. In his order, Trump said that he is granting pardon to the accused and about 1500 of his supporters in the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. Trump taking this step was considered a foregone conclusion because he had mentioned it in his election campaign. More than 100 police officers were injured in the attack by Trump’s supporters on the US Capitol and there was doubt over the peaceful transfer of power.
This happened for the first time in American history
Let us tell you that Trump used his broad pardon powers on the very first day of taking office and thus ended the largest investigation and prosecution related to any case in the history of the US Justice Department. This means that till date in the history of the US Justice Department, so many people have not been granted pardon at one time. Trump has also directed attorneys general to close about 450 cases filed against the Jan. 6 defendants. Even before returning to the White House, he had said that he would look into each case of the January 6 defendants.
Trump had called the rioters ‘patriots’
Whereas Vice President J. D. Vance had said a few days ago that those responsible for the violence during the riots should not be ‘categorically’ forgiven. Trump had called the rioters ‘patriots’ and said the Justice Department had treated them unfairly. Let us tell you that Trump has taken many big decisions as soon as he became President, which includes America’s withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement and leaving WHO. All such steps of Trump were already decided because he had laid a lot of emphasis on such things in his election campaign.
