Alan Musk (L) and US President Donald Trump (R)
Washington: The Donald Trump administration has stopped the dismissal of hundreds of federal employees, who were tasked to work on the country’s nuclear weapons programs. This change of Trump administration has confused the employees and experts have also warned about it. Three US officials who spoke to AP said that more than 350 employees in the National Nuclear Safety Administration were suddenly fired late on Thursday night.
‘People of dog are unknown’
US officials said that earlier employees would find out that they had been fired, on Friday morning, they found a lock from outside when they tried to enter their offices. The officials spoke on the condition of not mentioning the name of vengeance. One of the most affected offices was Pentex Plant near Amarilo in Texas, with a cut of about 30 percent. Deril Kimball, Executive Director of Arms Control Association, cited Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency Team, saying, “The people of Doge do not know at all at all what work this department is responsible for.”
Dismissal of canceled employees
Amidst all this, till late Friday night, the agency’s acting director Teresa Robins has released a memorandum to cancel the dismissal of all except for 28 of the hundreds of dismissed employees. The memorandum received by the AP stated, “This letter serves as a formal notification that the decision of the dismissal issued to you on February 13, 2025 has been canceled with immediate effect.”
‘Opponents of the country benefits’
Edwin Lyman, director of nuclear power security at the Union of Conservation Scientists, said the dismissal could disrupt the day-to-day functioning of the agency and create a sense of instability about the nuclear program both in the country and abroad. He said, “I think the signs for American opponents are very clear, create chaos in the entire national security system. This can only benefit the opponents of this country.” (AP)
