Johanansburg: US President Donald Trump’s decision to prevent foreign aid by the administration has created a crisis on the treatment of HIV infected in South Africa. Nozuko Majola (19), who lives in a rural area of Quazulu-Nottal province in South Africa, is one of the millions of patients who have had an impact of preventing global foreign aid by President Trump. This leads to obstruction of treatment of HIV patients, increase in infection rate and increasing number of deaths.

The ‘Human Sciences Research Council’ stated in the year 2024 that the second highest spread of HIV in South Africa is in the province of Mazola, where about 1,300 youth are vulnerable to this infection every week. About 19.8 lakh people were infected with HIV in 2022 in Quazulu-Natal. More than 75 million people in the country are infected with virus causing AIDS disease and this number is more than any other country.
Crisis on treatment of patients
The suspension of the President’s Emergency AIDS Relief Scheme by Donald Trump has created a crisis on the treatment of 55 lakh patients in the country. Under this scheme, every year South Africa’s HIV programs and many NGOs used to help US $ 40 million.
Millions of people are left dead
According to an United Nations agency, the emergency AIDS Relief Scheme is credited for saving the lives of at least two crore 60 lakh people globally since the establishment in 2003. A federal judge of the US has recently ordered the Trump administration to temporarily remove the prohibition on assistance, while the US Embassy said the schemes would resume with a limited discount.
