US President Donald Trump claimed at the NATO summit in the Netherlands on Wednesday, 25 June 2025 that US attacks on Iran’s nuclear bases on 21 June ended the 12-day war of Israeli-Iran. Trump compared these attacks to the nuclear attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, which ended the Second World War. He said, “I do not want to give an example of Hiroshima or Nagasaki, but this was the same thing. That attack ended the war, and it ended this war.”
Trump claimed that the Fordo, Natanj and Isfahan atomic bases were “completely destroyed”, leading to the Iran’s nuclear program “decades”. However, US intelligence reports indicated that the damage was partial due to the attacks and Iran had already secured uranium reserves. Trump dismissed these reports as “uncertain”.
On June 24, even after the ceasefire implemented by Qatar’s arbitration, the two sides accused each other of violation. Israel referred to four deaths in a missile attack in Birsheba, while Iran rejected it. Trump criticized the two countries, but expressed special displeasure from Israel.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Arakachi said that there will be no agreement till the Israeli attacks are closed. Oil prices fell 7% to $ 68.76 per barrel.
